There is a way
promises of deliverance…
6 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country.”
2 God also said to Moses, “I am the Lord. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty,[a] but by my name the Lord[b] I did not make myself fully known to them. 4 I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they resided as foreigners. 5 Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.
6 “Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. 7 I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. 8 And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.’”
i have asked, past and present, for an audible from The Lord. in these verses, moses was so fortunate to not only have had an “encounter” with Him, he also heard from The Lord. here God reminds moses who He is and what He, alone, is able to do:
a) He is Lord, El-Shaddai, is real and appeared to abraham, isaac, & jacob; b) makes promises, remembers and keeps them; c) He calls us His own (people); brings us out of trouble (frees and redeems) and takes care of us.
in chapter 6, although moses told the israelites what God had said, they were so focused on their troubles that they would not listen him. i can relate to that because in the past i would focus so much of my struggles, treading water and swimming aimlessly getting tired, that i could not grab onto the lifeline that He threw out to me, even when it was in front of my face.
this is a reminder that our Heavenly Father, our God who created all Heaven and earth, is not a distant, unloving God who we can’t know or have a relationship with. in the midst of our of greatest challenges and troubles, He hears us, watches over, and steps in when we seek Him (meditation/reflection), ask for His help (in prayer) and let Him (surrender, including our pride).
while i still hope to clearly get instructions like moses on what God wants of me or for me to do, i can say with certainty that He has never left me hanging, wandering around, wondering how am i going to get through what i’m dealing with. knowing i have Jesus, i can cling to that hope that no matter what is in front of me, He is the answer.
in my addiction, He sought me out and help me become sober; when i struggled with infidelity, He helped me realizes that i am not just destroying my relationship with my wife, it was that i was doing the same with Him; when i was financially in a bad space (even know), my family lacked nothing - He allowed us to keep our house, we always had food to eat, clothes on our backs, and all the necessary things to life. as these verses say:
I Am The Lord
I appeared
I established
I have heard
I will bring you out
I will free and redeem you
I will bring you into the land i promised
I will give to you (the land He brought them to) as a possession
nothing in it says I (God), plus me (warren), is the reason these things happen. we need to turn to The Lord, our God, who is so kind, generous, and loving to help when we actually listen, we ask for help, and then to wait on Him to do what only He can.
dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminder that you do seek your people, want a real and deep relationship with us. that if we would only turn to you, listen carefully and properly to your instructions, your direction, that you would be there every step of the way to help us when we need. i’m sorry for the times i have done life without you whether intentionally or not. please continue to teach me how to be connected to you at all times, trusting and believing you will do what you promised as you have in the past and will do so today and in the future for me, my family, and those that i love. in Jesus’ name i pray, amen!
